A fuel spill that leaked into the water near St George Motor Boat Club, Sans Souci, has been contained.
A witness, with her two children, at a nearby park this morning noticed the leak and told club staff.
‘‘I noticed the smell as soon as I got out of the car,’’ she said.
‘‘I saw a sheen of fuel over the water coming from underneath where the fuel line goes from the marina.
‘‘I was fishing and I thought ‘yuk’ ... I won’t fish there with fuel in the water.
‘‘There were birds swimming in it and it’s gone all over the oysters.
‘‘It’s unfortunate because they’ve just opened a new cafe down there, and everyone was looking at it [the leak].
‘‘I was disappointed that it took a while to do something about it.’’
A club spokesman said the leak, believed to be from the marina’s fuel system, was minor.
‘‘We discovered a minor leak from the marina and contained it as best as we could,’’ he said.
‘‘It’s been isolated.’’
