BASKETBALL: Sutherland Sharks 16 years women’s second division team is playing Northbears in the grand final of the Junior Waratah Metropolitan League at 12.30pm at Sutherland Basketball Stadium this Sunday.
Seven represent NSW
ICE SKATING: Seven locals are competing for NSW at the coveted Duke Trophy at Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink this weekend. They are Annelies Reynolds, 15, of Lugarno, Chloe Tan, 11, of Peakhurst, Trudy Rae, 39, of Grays Point, Edward Lin, 15, of Hurstville, Michael Pickup, 17, of Oatley, Charlie Huang, 10, of Hurstville, and Kieran Guan, 11, of Bexley. The Duke Trophy is an annual race meeting that has taken place for 62 years, with the first competition held in 1952. NSW takes on Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia. Competition starts at 7am on Saturday and Sunday.

Clubs can bank on grants
CRICKET: The Commonwealth Bank is encouraging cricket clubs in the region to apply for a support package from CommBank Cricket Club. Cricket clubs in Australia have the chance to get a share of more than $100,000 worth of cash and sporting equipment to help keep cricket thriving in their local community. Sutherland Shire cricket clubs can apply for grants for grassroots programs, which award 90 cricket clubs with cash grants of $1000 and an equipment pack containing training and playing gear, including Kookaburra stumps, training balls and more. A Super Grant will see one community club have its Grants for Grassroots package upgraded to $10,000.
