Arncliffe West Infants School students learned lessons under the sun on Friday, July 25, when their school participated in a tree-planting day.
As part of National Tree Day, the Discovery Point community hosted the annual Planet Ark initiative at the school.
Children, Australand staff and residents volunteered for planting more than 2300 plants on school grounds.
Australand has also organised extensive upgrades to the school worth about $100,000.
With the aim of enhancing the learning and development of current and future pupils, there will also be a new indigenous garden and an outdoor learning area
The outdoor area includes tree stump seats, two new cubby houses, modern bathrooms, laundry and kitchen facilities, a hot water system and new signage including a noticeboard in the library.
Planet Ark's National Tree Day manager Debbie Agnew said tree day was a "wonderful way for students to enjoy time outside and connect with nature".
"It engages students in a fun, hands-on activity which reinforces their environmental, maths, science and creative arts learning and helps brighten up their school grounds," she said.
