CRONULLA want to maintain their "giant killer" tag when they tackle Parramatta this Saturday at Remondis Stadium, Woolooware.
The Sharks have toppled top-eight teams, Brisbane, Sydney Roosters and Penrith, in the past five games.
The 18-16 win over Penrith at Carrington Park, Bathurst, on Saturday moved the team to 14 points.
With six rounds remaining the Sharks will move heaven and Earth to avoid the wooden spoon.
They are last on the table and have a much inferior for-and-against percentage to Canberra, who are second-last and played Souths in Canberra last night (Monday), with the result not known at the time of going to press.
Sharks fullback Michael Gordon, playing his against his old club, was superb in attack scoring a try and kicking one goal.
And big winger Jacob Gagan, a Parramatta junior, again showed strength with two tries.
Cronulla has beaten the Panthers twice this season.
Gordon, one of the game's most accurate kickers, only landed one from four attempts this time, but that happens to all goalkickers in their career.
In the Holden Cup, Penrith defeated Cronulla 18-14.
Match kick-off against the Eels this Saturday at Remondis Stadium is 3pm.
Cronulla 18 (Jacob Gagan 2, Michael Gordon
Sam Tagataese tries, Michael Gordon one goal)
d Penrith 16. Crowd: 8824.
Can the Sharks continue their good form and beat the Eels this Saturday?
SPONSORS, WHISPERS
The Sharks have had new sponsors in recent weeks. Labour Health signed on as a major sponsor, then Martec became the shorts’ sponsor and hydraulic hose fitting company, ENZED, became the back-of-the-jersey sponsor for the rest of the season.
South Sydney halfback Adam Reynolds has been linked with Sharks recruiting.
