IF the wardrobe is starting to resemble the city dump, it may be time to get organised.
Howards Storage World expert organiser Cathy Player said the secret to maximising space was putting in a system that used space efficiently.
"The elfa system is a supreme solution, as you can customise the system of shelves, hanging rails and specialty components to suit to your needs," she said.
"The next thing to consider is placing items that you use most in the most accessible place.
"There is no point having heavy winter coats in the best space in the middle of summer.
"Moving items into archive areas up high, when out of season, can make a major difference if space is tight.
"Another useful trick is to replace shelves with drawers so that 100 per cent of your shelf depth is accessible.
"Keep like items together and assign them storage that's suitable to how often you need to access them.
"Items that you use rarely don't need to be as visible, however items you use every day deserve the prime storage space."
Ms Player said hangers were also important.
"For example, suits should be hung on nice broad-shouldered timber hangers to maintain their shape, yet delicate dresses are best hung on flocked hangers."
