ST GEORGE District Netball Association are proving winners on and off the court with membership numbers rising.
The news its State League first division women's team won their maiden title in the Netball NSW Waratah League has given the sport a lift in St George.
Association secretary Lara Mina said the women's team victory had been a big boost.
"We have had an increase in players to play in the night inter-district representative competition in summer," Mina said.
The night inter-district competition involves association teams in various divisions.
Mina also said the association, which has 11 clubs and 1550 registered players, has had a significant boost in newcomers the past year.
"We've had 200 new registrations in our our juniors teams which are from under-9s to under-16s," she said.
The St George State League winning team were recipients in the Leader Sportstar Awards (senior team category) last week.
St George, coached by Moira Gaha, defeated 2013 premiers, Eastwood Ryde, 52-38, in the recent final.
Mina said the association which played its competition games at West Botany Street, Rockdale courts, had three big weekends this month.
The semi-finals start at 9am on August 16 for junior and senior age groups; finals on August 23 and grand final day on August 30.
"All junior games will be played before noon on grand final day," Mina said. "The victorious Waratah league team will be helping with the barbecue."
