COMMUTERS catching buses operated by Punchbowl Bus Services to and from Hurstville can use their Opal card.
Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian and Oatley MP Mark Coure visited Hurstville transport interchange recently to announce that Opal had gone live on a number of buses in the region.
"More than 360,000 Opal cards have now been issued across Sydney and customers have taken 21 million journeys and more than 4.5 million free trips across trains, ferries and buses," Ms Berejiklian said.
"Opal is putting an end to fumbling for coins, queuing for tickets and the frustration of turning up to the bus stop and realising your TravelTen has just run out.
"As part of the progressive roll-out of electronic ticketing, customers can now use Opal on all trains, all Sydney ferries and almost 1450 buses across North Sydney, Sydney's north-west, the Hills district and the eastern suburbs."
Ms Berejiklian said 5000 buses would be live with Opal by the end of the year.
Mr Coure said he was constantly lobbying the minister for improved public transport services in the community and was glad Opal was being rolled out in the Oatley electorate across a wide number of services.
He reminded commuters of the Opal weekly travel reward, which gave free travel on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays after eight paid journeys.
"I look forward to Opal rolling out on every bus at Hurstville and the St George-Sutherland area in the coming months," he said.
