If you have been waiting patiently for these words of wisdom, sorry about that!
If you haven’t seen the ocean over the last 2 days –you’re lucky. It’s about as average as it gets .Today the swell was about 2-3ft with a howling 20 knot Southerly, the tide was dead low and there isn’t a bank on the whole beach. There were no surfers except us on the beach until Cords paddled out at the Nth end of the Wall.
The pictures aren’t ideal but what you see is what you get and you only get 4 surfers to choose from.
The Swellnet forcast isn’t pleasant either with the swell due to drop to a 2ft low on Saturday. The only bonus is the winds should be offshore in the morning before swing onshore as the day goes on.

Anyway- Five new Australian Surfmasters Champions were crowned last week at the 2014 Australian Surf Festival at Emerald Beach.
Jake Paterson’s (Yallingup, WA) impressive run through the Australian Surf Festival hit its climax in the Over-35 Mens final when the former World Championship Tour surfer overcame a talented field to claim the title with a heat total of 14.40 (out of a possible 20 points). Over the course of the 25-minute final, Paterson went neck and neck with Mark Richardson (Palm Beach, Qld),
The King of the Dunnies (and I mean that-unchallenged) Glenn Pringle (Cronulla, NSW) added an Australian Title to his impressive list of accomplishments when he took out the Over-40 Mens final. The Cronulla surfer threw down a series of massive forehand turns to post a heat total of 15.95, which consequently left his closest competitor, Scott Schindler (Sawtell, NSW) chasing a near perfect 9.20 wave score (out of a possible ten points) to snatch the lead.
“As far as my performance goes I feel like I actually hit my peak in the semi-finals,” said Pringle. “I unfortunately felt some cramps in my legs by the time the finals came around and I think I was lucky to come away with the win. I would really like to dedicate my win to my brother Shane who took his own life 25 years ago this year. I’m sure he’s up there looking down on me.”
Well done and his old mate from the Dunnies, eight-times Australian Champion Rod Baldwin (Copacabana, NSW) was able to add another accomplishment to his resume when he claimed the Over-50 Mens Title. Despite being knocked from the event in the semi-finals in the Over-45 Mens division, Baldwin was able to sync his backhand turns with Emerald Beach’s long and wally righthanders in the Over-50 Mens final and take the win.
Clinton Guest (Burleigh Waters, Qld) and Emma Webb (Jan Juc, Vic) have been crowned 2014 Australian Open Longboard Champions, claiming titles in clean two-to-three foot waves at the 2014 Australian Surf Festival.
Guest and Webb took the victories for Queensland and Victoria when they took out the prestigious titles in waves that ran 100-to-200-metres down the length of Arrawarra Headland. Cronulla didn’t have ANY competitors in this event-amazing really!
The world’s best surfers are preparing for the Billabong Pro Tahiti, which gets underway on Friday, August 15, and runs through Tuesday, August 26, at the world-famous reef pass of Teahupo’o. This year marks the 17th instalment of the contest on the World Championship Tour and the 2014 event will offer the ASP Top 34 vital points towards the World-Title race.
For the punters,11-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (USA) has won in Teahupo’o four times (2000, 2003, 2005 and 2011) and in 2005 he surfed the perfect heat, scoring the first-ever 20 out of a possible 20 points against Damien Hobgood (USA) in the Final. Reigning three-time ASP World Champion Mick Fanning (AUS) was victorious here in 2012 and Adrian Buchan (AUS) is the defending event winner.
Local Tahitian Tuamata Puhetini was victorious at Saturday’s Trials event, held in solid six-to-eight foot (2 - 3 metre) waves at Teahupo’o. Puhetini and Trials’ Runner-Up Nathan Hedge (AUS) received seeds into the main event and will face off against the world’s best surfers in Round 1 of competition. Breathtaking and dangerous conditions were on offer for the Trials, with local standout Kevin Bourez suffering a horrific wipeout, being driven into the reef and suffering head fractures and facial lacerations. Younger brother of current ASP World No. 5 Michel Bourez, Kevin is currently under medical observation and the ASP wishes him a full recovery.

Shot entirely in Kodak Super 16mm film and with an original soundtrack created and curated by international DJ duo the Dukes of Chutney, Strange Rumblings in Shangri La will be an audiovisual psychedelic surf experience like nothing ever created before.
For the woman surfers the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) International is pleased to announce Target as the title sponsor for the Maui Women’s Pro, the final stop on the 2014 Samsung Galaxy ASP Women’s World Championship Tour, which will be held from November 22 through December 6, 2014 at the world-class Maui pointbreak of Honolua Bay.
This is a great contest held in great waves “These are easily some of the best waves on the planet and they’re set in the most beautiful location,” Carissa Moore said. “Honolua Bay is the ideal platform for the ASP Top 17 to perform upon and I can’t thank Target enough for supporting us there.”
Finally……Here’s a couple of pics from my mate Ant who lives at Margarets-who said” yesterday was bigger, biggest and cleanest I've ever seen”. His 8 footer was too small and in his words”10 ft boards are the new black over here” Think of that as you paddle out on your 5’6’ over the next couple of days….CIAO
