The wet and soggy conditions have led to the closure of Sutherland Shire’s sporting fields for the fifth day in a row.
And with many sporting clubs in the midst of semi-final play-offs, the rain could not come at a worst time.
A Sutherland Shire Council spokeswoman said sporting fields were open for sporting fixtures last Saturday but closed last Sunday because of heavy rain.
‘’Sunday soccer was cancelled but Sunday rugby league did go ahead,’’ she said.
‘’All sporting fields have been closed since Monday, August 18, and it is likely the grounds will be closed tomorrow.’’
Many clubs have been forced to cancel training planned for this week or move sessions to synthetic playing surfaces.
The 5sports centre in The Boulevarde, Caringbah, has a full-sized football field and 10 multi-purpose courts covered in 5G artificial grass.
The privately-owned sporting centre is a venue for soccer, netball, touch football, hockey, league, union, gridiron, AFL and volleyball.
Centre manager Brad Grunsell said sporting field closures always led to an increase in court and field bookings.
‘’We are basically full from 5pm to 10pm tonight,’’ he said
