Three plucked from car trapped in Moruya flood waters: Photos

The trio had to be plucked from the roof of their 4WD, which had become stuck in a fast-flowing creek at Wamban.

A nearby farmer threw a rope to them and the SES Batemans Bay Unit, NSW Police and Ambulance Service along with the Westpac helicopter were all called to the remote scene.

SES Officers were able to secure the car but it was decided the conditions were too dangerous to get the trio through the creek.

Lifesaver 3 winched them off the roof of the car and flew them to a nearby paddock where there were checked by ambulance paramedics. All three are okay.

Conditions made for a tricky rescue with low level cloud and heavy rain falling in the area. 

9.56AM: Three people trapped on the roof of their car in rising floodwaters west of Moruya have been rescued by the Westpac helicopter.

A State Emergency Service spokeswoman said teams from Moruya and Batemans Bay were called to reports of three people trapped by flood water at Wamban shortly after 8.30am.

“We have eight personnel on scene and when they arrived they saw three people sitting on top of their car trapped by rising flood water,” the spokeswoman said.

“After assessing the scene the Life Saver 3 helicopter winched all three to safety.

“SES teams remained on scene to assess the situation as to whether access points needed to be closed.

“All three people are safe and well.”

9.25AM: Frightening reports of three clinging to the roof of a car in flood waters at Wamban west of Moruya.

9.21AM: The trio are trapped in a car on Donnellys Creek Road, 10km west of Moruya. Two SES crews and an ambulance are also on their way to the scene.

8.55AM: Early reports that three people have been trapped by flood waters west of Moruya.

The Westpac Lifesaver 3 helicopter has been called to the scene.

 More than 74mm of rain has fallen at Araluen overnight and there have been widespread falls of more than 50mm across the region.
