SHARON Hall wanted to bring a little piece of the inner city to Engadine with her cafe Urban on Lantana.
And judging by the menu, featuring Nepalese goat curry, and pulled lamb sandwiches, she has succeeded.
With husband Michael and chef Phil Fuary, she has created an oasis that has the motto ‘‘eat, drink and unwind’’ with everything from coffee to cocktails available.
She ‘‘fell into’’ opening the cafe after seeing an empty shopfront near the recently refurbished park in Lantana Road: three weeks later Urban on Lantana opened and has been dealing with good crowds ever since.
The cafe is open seven days a week for breakfast and lunch, while dinner is served on Saturday nights only.
Brasserie Bread is used on the sandwiches and in the most popular breakfast item — ‘‘The Urban’’: which is bacon, chipolotas, eggs, sweet potato rosti, and mushrooms on rye.
The kids’ menu includes pancakes for breakfast ($7) and beef nachos and ham toasties (both $8) at lunch.
Diners love the pulled lamb sandwich with beetroot relish, feta and mint, and the frittata which changes daily.
Home-made lemonade and the violet crunch hot chocolate are popular drinks.
