Friday Aug 29, 4:30pm: A car that was used in a shooting at Kingsgrove may be linked to several recent armed robberies on licensed premises in Sydney, police said.
Yesterday at about 9am, a new chicken shop close to the railway station, Cheeky Chooks Lebanese Charcoal Chicken on Kingsgrove Road was fired at.
Witnesses told police that a man in a passing car was the shooter. It is believed three men were in the car at the time. No one was injured.
A grey 2008 Audi station wagon, was found abandoned and burnt, with firearms inside and is undergoing forensic examination.
St George Police detectives from Strike Force Euroka are appealing for anyone who may have seen the car in the area of Kingsgrove Road and Staples Street at the time of the shooting to come forward.
Kogarah labor candidate Chris Minns was attending a campaign event in the suburb half an hour before the shooting.
He said the latest shooting was a sign of escalating gun violence in the region.
‘‘It was crowded with people going to work and school, and opening their businesses for the day,’’ he said.
‘‘In broad daylight on a busy street...fortunately, this has been limited to property damage but it could have been worse.’’

Thursday Aug 28: School children and commuters were lucky not to be caught up this morning in the Kingsgrove shop shooting.
A Kingsgrove Road chicken shop close to the railway station and only metres from the local police station was hit just before 9am.
Witnesses told police that a man in a passing car was the shooter.
It is believed three men were in the car at the time.
Police found firearms in the car after it was found burnt in a nearby street, possibly Mashman Avenue.
The shop had just opened up in the area, said an employee at a nearby business.
