SPRING arrived right on cue when the Sutherland Shire Orchid Society held its 62nd annual spring show at Swane’s Nursery on the weekend.
Rain discouraged attendance on the first three days of the show which opened last Thursday. But on Sunday, the last day of the show, the sun finally came out bringing the crowds with it.
The spring show saw 30 of the society’s members exhibit more than 300 plants from around the world.
Visitors were able to ask the experts questions on the intricacies of growing orchids, and there were orchid potting demonstrations.
The show was a preview for the Southern Orchid Spectacular, to be held at Caringbah High School on October 3 to 5, which sees the Sutherland Shire Orchid Society, Eastern Suburbs Orchid Society and Orchid Society of NSW join forces for the biggest show of the year.
