Michael Gordon is the Sharks nominee for the Ken Stephen medal, an award celebrating the work the NRL and its players do in the community.
He has been nominated for his outstanding contribution to Sharks community programs and initiatives during 2014.
Gordon has proven to not only be a great contributor to the Sharks on-field performances, having been the only player at the club to run out for all 23 NRL games so far in 2014, but off the field he has been a shining light when it comes to his commitment to community causes.
He has devoted his time to help brighten the lives of children in schools, hospitals and in and around Remondis Stadium, Woolooware, during their frequent visits on training and game days.
A proud father of two children, Gordon has been instrumental in the Sharks work with the NRL’s Tackle Bullying program, a community initiative that alerts children to the consequences of bullying and attempts to empower them to cope with challenging social situations.
“Working with children is such a rewarding experience,” Gordon said.
‘‘When you interact with children about topics such as bullying, you can see they really take that information to heart.
‘‘It’s great to be able to share such positive messages with children during their early years.
“As a father myself, I find there is nothing that beats seeing a child smile from something you have done to improve their day.”
The Ken Stephen medal is named after the late Ken Stephen, a longtime secretary of the NSW Rugby League.
