Sydney Airport’s emergency plan will be tested tonight as part of a training exercise involving state emergency services.
The simulation involves the mock crash landing of a 737 plane after a mechanical problem on board.
More than 200 people will be involved including emergency services and airport staff.
Airports are required to have mergency exercises every two years to test their emergency plan including activating facilities and testing that resources are available to support the agencies involved in an emergency response.
Botany Bay Local Area commander, Superintendent Karen McCarthy, said the exercise was a valuable opportunity to test the response of a range of agencies to an emergency.
“The public must have confidence in our ability not just to be able to plan for an incident such as this, but more importantly, that we are prepared and test our capabilities regularly,” she said.
