THE rain arrived, then went away, and there were spasmodic periods of sunshine that shone on Sutherland Shire Netball Association’s biggest day of the year, grand final day on Saturday.
There were big crowds and hundreds of players on the Bellingara Road Netball Courts at Miranda for the big occasion.
The courts were a sea of colours where teams in all age groups played for premiership glory. And the teams that lost their grand finals were gallant runners-up, an achievement in itself to make premiership decider.
The association has 26 clubs and 6500 registered players, one of the biggest in Netball NSW.
Over the years it has provided many top players such as Australian Diamonds star Kimberlee Green, of Miranda., the NSW Swifts captain
Top grand final-winning clubs across many age groups were Caringbah Thistles, six; Connells Point, five; Sylvania, five; St John Bosco, five; Barden Ridge, five; Menai Hawks, five, Miranda Magpies five; Gymea, five; Heathcote, three; Flames, two.
