THE all-conquering Southern Power Women's Club have made history by being undefeated in the season and winning the 2014 Sydney AFL second division competition.
The Power had an electrifying season, winning 16 premiership games, then a major semi-final and the all-important grand final by 10 points on Sunday at Blacktown International Sportspark.
The undefeated run has put the club on the map, and there is talk of entering two teams next year.
The Power kicked just two goals, to take their first title 2.6 (18) to Wollongong Saints 1.2 (8) on a wet surface. They were down by four points at half-time.
The Power's Kathryn Hull was named player of the match.
Proud coach Matt Crowe said all 29 players used in the season had contributed to the historic triumph.
Crowe, 33, of Rockdale, said the girls trained twice a week at their home ground Gwawley Oval at Taren Point.
"The team are a close-knit group; they all get on and work hard together," Crowe said.
"Next year we might get promoted to first division, but that's up to the Sydney AFL.
"But next year the club wants to enter two teams.
"Almost all the players came from St George and Sutherland Shire.
"Shellee Gibson comes up to play from Shellharbour."
Crowe said the ages of the players ranged from 17 to early 40s.
Louise Glasgow, in her early 40s, of Loftus, is a grandmother Crowe said "loves playing AFL".
"The players come from all walks of life," Crowe said.
Crowe, a former Southern Power men's player, began as coach last season when the team were beaten by Macquarie University in the grand final.
But they returned bigger and better in 2014 to secure the historic win.
In their 16 competition games, the Power scored 1107 points and conceded only 102.
Crowe said the Southern Power AFL Club was supportive of women's Australian football.
He said the women's team had formed in 2010.
Crowe said the side return next year to chase another title.
