EARLIER STORY SEPTEMBER 9:
SUTHERLAND police Sergeant Glenn Gorick has begun a gruelling six-day run from Sydney to Canberra to raise funds for NSW Police Legacy.
Sergeant Gorick, from Sutherland Trail Bike Unit, set out from Sydney on Monday and is due to arrive in Canberra on Saturday to coincide with the National Police Wall to Wall memorial ride.
Since he started with NSW Police in 1985, eight of his colleagues have died in the line of duty and this has motivated him to give back.
"I've been involved in doing a lot with [NSW Police] Legacy over the past year," he said.
"It's a really important organisation which helps families."
He is aiming to cover about 55 kilometres each day and will complete the run in his full police trail bike uniform, which adds at least 10 kilograms.
"I'll be feeling the pain but I want to do whatever I can to make sure NSW Police Legacy gets all the support they can get," he said.
