St George District Cricket Club has lost one of its finest players, Ron Mulock, who died on September 4, aged 84.
Mr Mulock, who was No. 161 on the club’s list of players, was raised at Hurstville.
He was a fast medium outswing bowler who played first grade with St George and then for Central Cumberland after moving to Penrith.
He practised as a solicitor at Penrith before entering politics.
Mr Mulock became the local MP in 1971, and rose to deputy premier in 1984 under Premier Neville Wran.
St George District Cricket Club president Kevin Greene said Mr Mulock was a regular at club events and always spoke highly of his playing days at St George.
Mr Mulock took 202 first grade wickets for St George, Waverley and Central Cumberland during his career.
He averaged 19.29, with best figures of 8-59 against Northern District in a 1962-63 semi-final.
He added another 219 wickets in second grade.
His career began in 1949-50 and finished after the 1962-63 season.
Mr Greene said the club was saddened at Mr Mulock’s death and officials and members extended their sympathy to his family.
Mr Mulock’s family and friends are invited to attend his Requiem Mass at 10am on Friday, September 12, at St Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, High Street Penrith.
