A SUTHERLAND Shire-based sportsman who travels the world for work is looking forward to tackling his next two jobs at home.
Dale Moscatt, 39, of Kirrawee, is a professional co-driver for rally drivers competing in local and international events.
His job entails working with the driver to create a code of instructions (pace notes) about the route they will travel in the event, then calling those notes back to the driver during competition, providing a detailed mental "video" of the road ahead.
Moscatt has just returned from competing in Germany in round nine of the World Rally Championship.
He will be much closer to home for the 10th round of the international series - Rally Australia on the Coffs Coast, in northern NSW, starts today (Thursday) and ends on Sunday.
From Coffs Coast, Moscatt flies immediately to WA to compete in the Australasian Safari, an eight-day cross-country event that is Australia's version of the famous Dakar Rally.
"It's a very busy time of the year but all the hard work is worth it to compete at the highest levels of the sport," Moscatt said.
"I've travelled around quite extensively and competed in some fantastic places and I must say I'm really looking forward to getting back up to Coffs.
"It is right up there, both for its scenic beauty and for the spectacular roads that we get to compete on."
Moscatt began rallying 20 years ago as a hobby but had to fit it in around his work as an electrician. In 2004 he turned professional and he has been busy ever since.
"In that 10 years I've had some good contracts including factory-backed rides in the World Rally Championship and the Intercontinental Rally Challenge in Europe that have seen me working overseas a lot, including some years with more than half of the calendar spent away competing."
Moscatt will contest the Australian division of the WRC with teammate Scott Pedder in a Walkinshaw Performance-run Renault Clio. The pair lead the Australian Rally Championship.
