Experts from Australia and overseas are being invited to come up with ‘‘innovative ideas and designs’’ for new road tunnels that will duplicate the M5 East motorway as part of the WestConnex project.
The call for expressions of interest was announced at the start of geotechnical drilling along the corridor.
Federal Treasurer Joe Hockey joined Premier Mike Baird and Roads Minister Duncan Gay to mark the ‘‘milestone’’.
Mr Baird said geotechnical drilling would take place at 100 sites along the route during pre-construction work for the new tunnels.
‘‘We want worldwide experts to throw their hats into the ring to deliver infrastructure which will help transform the way motorists travel around Sydney and drive the economic growth of this city,’’ he said.
Do you think WestConnex is the right answer to Sydney traffic problems?
