TWO important events dear to the hearts of women surfers are happening this Saturday and Sunday at North Cronulla beach.
They are the sixth annual NRMA Women’s Surf Classic and the Maxum ASP Women’s Pro Junior.
The Pro Junior will offer $2000 in prize money and vital ASP Pro Junior Series rankings points for those surfers who are vying to qualify for the ASP World Junior Championships being held from October 25 to November 2 in Ericeira in Portugal.
A large variety of stalls run by local businesses and nationally recognised brands at Dunningham Park will complement the surfing events.
“We’re looking to build a village atmosphere for the local Cronulla community,” said Surfing NSW event manager Luke Madden.
Competing surfers can look forward to a designated athletes’ area to unwind, store their boards and check out the action.
Tradies will host a Women in Surf sports dinner tomorrow (Friday) at Elouera Surf Life Saving Club.
Maxum will donate $5 from every watch sale to Bravehearts to help their mission of protecting Australian children from sexual assault (see story below left).
Surfing NSW will have a free CPR and board rescue course — Surfers Rescue 24/7 — at the weekend. Details: surfersrescue247.com.au
