CHEESEMAKING at home could be considered a lost craft but thankfully for cheese lovers it is trendy once again.
Home and Gift Warehouse at Taren Point is hosting 90-minute cheesemaking classes, at 11am and 2pm on Saturday, September 20.
Tickets are $39.95 and a Mad Millie Italian cheesemaking kit is included.
Owner Brent Pallister said it was possible to make cheese at home using common kitchen equipment such as pots and bowls.
"The kit will supply any speciality ingredients, recipe and hardware needed to make six kilograms of Italian cheese in the kitchen," he said.
Host will be cheesemaker Marly Schimmelschmidt, who said classes demonstrated cheesemaking by giving participants the chance to see how the curdle formed and how to stretch mozarella by hand.
"When you make delicious cheese at home you can make it the way you like it, with full control of the salt, moisture and any herbs you want," she said.
"What you make at home is incredibly fresh without the additives commercially made cheeses include to enhance shelf life, and you can taste the difference."
Ms Schimmelschmidt said previous participants had been amazed at how quick and easy it was to make at home and how delicious it tasted.
"We will start with milk in a bottle and an hour-and-a-half later we will be eating the cheese we have made," she said.
"People become so inspired that they go home and make cheese right away."
The kit makes mozarella, ricotta, marscapone and boccini varieties.
