KATE Elliot knows how hard it can be making new friends, and she wants to help others who are feeling a bit lonely.
After spending time living overseas Mrs Elliot returned to her home town of Sydney, only to find that the intervening years made slotting back into her old social circles tricky.
"Sydney is very cliquey," she said.
"Sometimes the connections you had aren't as fulfilling as they were."
Meeting new people can be hard for those who have recently moved or undergone a milestone life event, even if it is someone you click with.
"It can be hard to ask someone for their phone number."
With sister-in-law Kim Elliot, the pair started Kate and Kim, a network that helps women make new friendships.

"This can take the awkwardness out of making friends as it is less like an interview and more casual," she said.
Women hoping to make some new friends are invited to attend the "food and friends" September 24 event at The Old Library at Cronulla.
The number is capped at 10 participants to ensure easy conversations and a relaxed atmosphere.
