THE clock is ticking and the new Sydney Cricket Association season is just nine days away.
St George play UNSW in their opening match of the season on Saturday, September 27, at Hurstville Oval.
New first grade captain is Trent Copeland and the former Australian fast bowler believes St George will be competitive.
"We've got a lot of young players in the squad and experienced players too," Copeland said.
Copeland will also be busy playing for NSW at Sheffield Shield and one day level.
St George president Kevin Greene said Copeland had terrific leadership qualities .
The club holds its official launch, tomorrow, when club co-patron Warren Saunders will deliver the O'Reilly Oration at 12.30pm at Hurstville Oval.
Greene said the oration was an ideal way to launch a new season.
The oration is recognition for the late Bill "Tiger" O'Reilly and the contribution he made to St George, NSW and Australian cricket.
O'Reilly was one of 13 St George players who went on to play Test cricket.
St George first grade play Parramatta at 10am on Saturday at Old Kings Oval in a one-day trial game.
Greene said lower grade trials were from 9.30am to noon on Saturday at Hurstville Oval.
"We're looking forward to a good season in all grades," he said.
