VICTORIA amat curam is Latin for "victory demands dedication". It's true. You don't get anywhere in life unless you work hard and apply yourself.
In last week's column I wrote about teamwork and its importance.
In 2010, Dragons Ben Hornby and Dean Young were part of the premiership team that won the grand final under coach Wayne Bennett. I'm sure they learnt many things from him.
Very much a part of the Bennett coaching mantra is hard work and teamwork and working to a common goal.
Hornby and Young are a coaching partnership this season in charge of the Dragons under-20s who are now into the preliminary final next weekend. They're a team that's in charge of a team. (See a photo gallery)
The Dragons finished fourth in the regular rounds then toppled minor premier Newcastle Knights, 30-22, on Saturday at Allianz Stadium in the qualifying final.
This weekend they have a rest and await their opponent in the elimination game next weekend, either Brisbane Broncos or Wests Tigers playing this weekend.
If they win the preliminary final, they make the grand final on October 5 at ANZ Stadium.
Hornby and Young are keen to further their coaching careers and down the track may end up on NRL coach Paul McGregor's staff.
Truly A-grade
Rockdale City Suns FC under-18s A-grade women's team are shining brightly after winning their St George Football Association grand final on Sunday at the Ilinden Sports Centre.
They won the decider 3-0 over Bexley North.
President Dennis Loether said the team finished as minor premiers, scoring 110 goals and conceding just five.
Loether said it was the first win by a women's team at the club.
"It shows our intention to grow our female teams which we hope to expand next year," Loether said.
"We'll be looking for many more girls to join our female teams and to create new girls-only teams."
