The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) at Lucas Heights said it was prepared for any threat following a decision to increase the national terrorism alert level to high.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott made the announcement amid concerns over the number of Australians working with or inspired by overseas terrorist groups.
The ANSTO comment was made as more than 800 police officers searched homes in Sydney and Brisbane this morning in the largest counter-terrorism raids in Australian history.
Police allege the group targeted in the raids had started to carry out planning to commit violent acts in Australia.
Fifteen people have been detained.
An ANSTO spokesman said the organisation had security arrangements in place.
“As is on the public record, ANSTO has the latest security systems, and security infrastructure including fencing, CCTV cameras and the presence of a 24-hour, armed AFP response force,’’ he said.
“Security arrangements at ANSTO will always be second to none, in line with our regulatory requirements, international best practice and community expectations.
“We continue to work with the Australian Federal Police, the intelligence community and other relevant agencies to make sure that the measures we have remain commensurate with the threat environment.”
