THEY improve patient outcomes at St George Hospital but they are not doctors.
The Lamrock Committee is a group of volunteers who raise money for vital medical equipment and services at the hospital.
The committeeorganised a charity golf day at Bexley Golf Club at Kingsgrove recently to raise money for equipment for the intensive care unit.
Entry for the 18-hole ambrose event costs $140 a player or $560 for a team of four.
Corporate sponsorship is available. The St George division of the Master Builders Association has pledged $5000.
Last year the committee raised about $60,000 for equipment for the new emergency department.
Since its inception in 1991, the committee has raised more than $1.1 million.
It is named after Dr James Lamrock, one of the hospital's founders and its first senior medical officer.
The committee receives hundreds of requests for equipment each year across all departments.
Each year it donates to Bezzina House, which provides accommodation for cancer patients undergoing treatment at St George Hospital, and for their immediate carer.
"Every dollar that's raised goes to equipment and not into general revenue for the hospital," said Lamrock Committee president Toni Horsey. "Over the years we've tried to give to areas that don't get much funding."
