SPECSAVERS Sylvania optometrist Dean Pasarakis has helped restore sight to residents in the Pacific Islands.
Mr Pasarakis travelled to the Polynesian island nation of Tuvalu as part of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Opthalmologists Pacific Islands program.
Tuvalu (formerly known as the Ellice Islands) relies entirely on overseas aid for eye care.
The Royal College's program is the only eye health care program in Tuvalu, and is run once a year.
During his nine-day stay, Mr Pasarakis provided eye tests and diagnosis of cataract and pterygium.
"It was an incredibly rewarding experience to be able to treat the locals, especially as most of them had increased risk to eye health issues because of lack of medical care, high sun exposure and other environmental factors," he said.
He also distributed more than 200 pairs of glasses from Specsavers Sylvania customers.
