GARY Fa'afua of Bexley has been nominated for the NRL's One Community Award in the volunteer of the year category.
The 49-year-old has devoted much of his life to rugby league in St George and across many areas of the game.
Born in New Zealand, of Samoan heritage, he has been involved with Kingsgrove Colts Junior Rugby League Club for almost 20 years.
He joined the club when his son Jacob began playing there as a youngster.
Since that time, Fa'afua, has served as a Colts club president, volunteered countless hours on their committee and coached junior teams.
He is now an executive board member with St George Junior Rugby League.
"I loved being involved in rugby league because I have always had a passion for the game," Fa'afua said.
"It's all about the kids playing the game and learning about themselves and being part of a team and a club."
Fa'afua has worked tirelessly as president of the Toa Samoa NSW Rugby league.
He said that seeing the Samoan community playing rugby league held a special place in his heart.
"Playing rugby league has given empowerment to the Samoan community," he said.
The awards night will be this Thursday at the Carriageworks, Eveleigh.
