MORE than 200 talented players turned out on Thursday at Sylvania Hockey Field for Sutherland Primary Schools' gala hockey day.
The annual event brought together 22 primary schools from St George and Sutherland Shire.
Sutherland Hockey Club life member and competition co-ordinator Kevin Connelly said games were held for senior and junior age teams.
He said many had put in hard work to make the annual event successful.
St John Bosco Primary, Engadine, won the senior team event while Illawong was runner-up. In the junior event, Grays Point won and St George Christian School, Hurstville, was runner-up.
Connelly said the next school term included a summer competition for primary and secondary schools.
"It's an eight-week program that starts on October 7," he said. "This competition finishes by the end of November."
