Wilbur Lane, Cronulla, would have been vibrating under the weight of 800 festival revellers dancing at the Sounds of the Suburbs Festival on Sunday afternoon.
The festival is brought to life by organisers Aaron Girgis and Jack Irvin from Space 44 and Geoff Trio and Jad Nakhle from the Brass Monkey at Cronulla.
There were four stages packed with local bands and international acts courtesy of Burger Records in the US.
Girgis said a good time was had by all, helped along by perfect weather and an energetic response from the lively crowd.
He said some up-and-coming bands played for a festival crowd for the first time.
‘‘Watching bands play in front of hundreds of people at their first festival was great, you couldn’t wipe their smiles off with a cricket bat,’’ Girgis said.
‘‘And to see bands that come from the other side of the world and, without radio play, have 600 people singing every lyric ... it was amazing.’’
Irvin said the response from the crowd showed that everyone was having a great time.
‘‘We were walking through the festival, people we know would just grab us and tell us they love it and thanking us for putting it on,’’ Irvin said.
‘‘We just want to thank people for coming because we can build it but we need people to come along and enjoy.’’
