EXPERIENCED batsman Stewart McCabe heads a list of left-handers in the St George first grade line-up this season.
In fact, the top three batsman are left-handers. The batting order goes this way: Stewart McCabe, Steve Cazullino, Kurtis Patterson. That's the top three. Then throw in wicket-keeper Guy Seymour, recruited from Fairfield Liverpool. He bats in the middle-order.
That's four left-handers, the other seven are right-handers.
McCabe, who stands 186 centimetres tall, uses his height to advantage when he bats. Standing over the ball and displaying powerful straight drives and pull shots through mid-wicket.
McCabe drives the ball with authority and power, and the opener loves to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
He started this season on fire, slamming 88 for St George in their total of 274 on the opening day on Saturday at Hurstville Oval against UNSW. At stumps the visitors were 3-69.
McCabe, 33, was named the club's player of the year in season 2013-14, slamming 798 runs across all formats of the game.
He also bowls leg spin.
"I took a hat-trick in first grade last season," McCabe said.
"I made debut for Saints against Bankstown at Bankstown Oval and I batted No. 10."
McCabe said the Saints had a good blend of youth and experience.
He said new skipper and former Australian fast bowler and current NSW paceman Trent Copeland, led a well-balanced attack.
