THE task for Sutherland's grade cricket team is to bowl Fairfield Liverpool out to get the six first-innings points on Saturday at Rosedale Oval, Warwick Farm.
Sutherland are in a solid position after making 281 on the opening day on Saturday with the home side, Fairfield Liverpool, 22 without loss at stumps.
Test batsman Steve Smith played on the opening day but has flown to Dubai for international commitments.
Sutherland skipper Nathan Fitzgerald heads the pace line-up. He said they would have three spinners in their bowling attack this week.
Riley Ayre, Dan Fallins and Jamie Brown, are the three-prong slow-bowling attack.
"The wicket turns a bit at Rosedale," Nathan Fitzgerald said.
In lower grade news, Sutherland's second grade made Sutherland 306 on Saturday with Adam Whatley scoring 115, James Bills, 44, Tom Doyle 36, and Trent Smith 29. Fairfield Liverpool are 1-69 in reply.
In third grade, Fairfield Liverpool made 8-284 with Josh Zywietz taking 2-38 and Nick Sharman 2-41.
In fourths, Sutherland are 4-350, with Dylan Smith making 145, Oliver Selby 64 n.o., James Arnold 45, Will Fraine 38, and Alex Watkiss 31 n.o.
In fifth grade, Fairfield Liverpool made 7-169, with Pat Driscoll taking 2-14, Ryan Thomson 2-22 and Jayden Brown took 2-28.
Sutherland club historian Tom Iceton said several players reached milestones in the opening round.
Iceton said Josh Zywietz played his 100th match in third grade, Nathan Whittingham reached 250 wickets in all grades from 177 matches, Nick Sharman has now taken 100 wickets in all grades from 77 matches and Dylan Smith produced 145, the highest score in fourth grade for the club. The previous best was 120 from David Givney in 1984-85.
