Miranda MP Barry Collier said he has received numerous complaints about Westfield breaching its approved working hours and conditions ahead of the scheduled opening on October 16 of the first stage of its $435 million redevelopment.
‘‘The complaints came from residents of Karimbla Road, behind the shopping centre on the other side of the railway line,’’ he said.
‘‘Yesterday, commencing at 4.10am, Westfield tested its alarm system 12 consecutive times,’’ he said.
Mr Collier said he was told that Sutherland Shire Council had received numerous complaints.
He said he had raised the matter with Westfield and was waiting for a reply.
‘‘There is a lot of anger out there about this,’’ Mr Collier said.
‘‘The council simply has to show a bit of gumption, stand up for its residents and apply for a Supreme Court injunction against Westfield.’’
The Leader has sought comment from Westfield and the council.
Westfield began trialling its new paid parking system this week but charges will not apply until next month.
