The Shark Island Challenge is underway off Cronulla Point.
The Challenge has been running for 18 years and is regarded as the scariest and most dangerous bodyboarding wave location in the world.
With a heaving slab of water that unloads on a treacherous reef only 100m from Cronulla Point, this wave creates a perfect aquatic arena where the best Bodboarders in the world do battle against each other and the deadly Shark Island.
The S.I.C is an Association of Professional Bodyboarders (APB) World Tour Specialty Bodyboarding Event and started in 1997 with 12 local bodyboard riders and 12 professional invitees from around the world.
Twenty-four National and International Riders are selected by invitation to compete in the one-day event.
Conditions are ideal with a two-metre swell and offshore winds and the eventstarts around 9am and finish at 2pm either side of the high tide.
Some of the world’s best athletes who have been invited are Dave Winchester, Ben Player (2013 & 2008 World Champion), Jake Stone, Andrew Lester, Alex Leon, Jeff Hubbard, Mitch Rawlins, Damian King and Josh Kaihe (2013 S.I.C Champion) plus many more.
