WOOLOOWARE High School was thanked for its dedication and ongoing commitment in supporting an international student through a sponsorship program.
The school has sponsored student Filimon Stevin Chamgeni for more than 14 years.
Kim Saville and Felix Mollel, representatives of the School of St Jude in Arusha, Tanzania, visited Woolooware High to meet the student representative council last Thursday.
St Jude's offers free education to more than 1650 of the poorest children in northern Tanzania.
Woolooware's senior leadership team raise funds for its sponsorship program each year.
Staff have also been to St Jude's to visit Filimon, who is completing high school.
Woolooware High principal Marianne Siokos said students were passionate about the project.
"They understand how important education is in empowering young men and women to have choices in their lives and to fight poverty," she said.
"Filimon often tells us how he is progressing, through letters to the school.
"We are looking to begin a new sponsorship in the future and support his continued learning through tertiary education."
St Jude's visiting co-ordinator Felix, from the Maasai tribe, was previously sponsored. The former bus driver from Tanzania now travels to schools across Australia encouraging young people to support disadvantaged communities in Africa.
