It is good that the Leader is giving prominence to the cane toad problem in Sydney.
Over the years the paper has highlighted the problem of individual cane toads reaching Sydney.
I stood last state election in Albury and in the 2010 federal elections for Farrer on bees, their enemies and on related issues. One of these was cane toads.
I advocated funding for local councils to overcome these problems.
I am glad that the Leader reported that Sutherland Shire Council is giving $60,000 to wipe out cane toads but Professor Shine and Dr Greenlees of Sydney University need $600,000.
There has been a colony of cane toads at Taren Point since 2008.
It is a shame also that individual cane toads have even reached Melbourne.
