THE opening of a second lift has all but completed a $30 million upgrade of Sutherland railway station.
Other improvements previously carried out included a new bus interchange and road changes to ease the movement of pedestrians and vehicles.
When work is finished next year on a new commuter car park, the transport hub will be of a standard befitting Sutherland's designation as a "planned major centre" in the state government's draft metropolitan strategy for Sydney to 2031.
Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian opened the new lift to platform one on Friday, which is in addition to existing ramp access from East Parade.
Platforms two and three were already serviced by a lift.
Ms Berejiklian, who was flanked by the new Liberal candidate for Miranda, Eleni Petinos, and MPs Melanie Gibbons and Lee Evans, said the lift would make it easier for passengers in wheelchairs, families with prams and travellers with luggage.
Ms Berejiklian said an improvement still to come was a new canopy on the East Parade pedestrian ramp, to provide customers with improved weather protection.
