Caulfield Cup winner that was penalised half a kilogram for his success on Saturday. Some would suggest that penalty was probably not enough. Form suggests he will be better suited at 3200m.
2. Fawkner $13
Last year's Caulfield Cup winner and the favourite for Saturday's Cox Plate, which has proved to be the best Australian form line for the Big One in the past few years. He could challenge for favouritism if he wins on Saturday.
3. Red Cadeaux $21
Getting on in years but has twice been runner-up at Flemington on the first Tuesday in November. Reportedly as happy as ever at Werribee and heads to Geelong for a change of scenery on Tuesday.
4. Willing Foe $21
Lightly raced Godolphin stayer from Europe. James McDonald takes the ride and is happy to be on him as he is the top pick, ahead of Cavalryman, in the blue army runners.
5. Protectionist $6.50
The first time he missed a place in nine starts was his fourth in the Herbert Power Handicap on Caulfield Guineas day. But the run was that good he was made favourite for the Cup. Winner of the Prix Kergorlay this year, the race Americain and Dunaden came through before winning at Flemington.
6. Zanbagh $51
Runner-up in the VRC Oaks and Australian Oaks and has been aimed at one race. Patrick Payne is a master trainer of stayers and she could jump in the market after she runs in Wednesday's Geelong Cup.
7. Mutual Regard $21
Won the Ebor Handicap and pleased the camp since being in Australia. He is the subject of a bunfight between several jockeys who want to get the ride.
8. Lucia Valentina $7.50
As good as the winner when third in the Caulfield Cup and will meet him better at the weights in the Melbourne Cup. There is, however, a question mark at the two miles.
9. My Ambivalent $51
Had a setback and missed the Caulfield Cup but her thirds in the Sheema Classic in Dubai and Coronation Cup at Epsom were quality efforts. Untested at two miles but is well-weighted.
10. Araldo $21
Looks to impress as a grinding sort of stayer. Ran on late for third in the Metropolitan and was a good fifth in the Caulfield Cup after sustaining a long run.
