Hurstville reader Mira Farrugia was stumped to see this odd frog taking some time out in one of her pot plants. "The day I took the picture, it was rather cold and dull," she said.
"Apparently the [Peron frog] changes colour, depending on the weather. We live opposite a golf course, and we hear them croaking on warm nights."
The Australian Museum's website said it is a common frog in the Sydney area and also found in northern Victoria and southern Queensland.
It also has a drill-like call, which has also been described as a 'maniacal cackle'.
The frog lives in most forest habitats but will also forage for food in open grassland and other open areas and sometimes tries to breed in suburban fish ponds.
