CONNELLS Point Sailing Club has a new crew aboard this season.
There are 12 children and three parents learning to sail.
The sailors took to the water recently for the first time in a training program which will continue for the next seven weeks.
The club is at Donnelly Park, Kyle Bay.
Newcomers will learn the basics of sailing and — after finishing the course — can compete in Saturday racing.
The club is hosting its discover sailing open day today from 10am-3pm.
Club member Karen Branch said the club would be having more learn to sail programs on January 12-16.
The learn to sail course is free.
"You have the option to go out for a short sail with an experienced sailor, have a look around the club facilities, and find out about the programs, types of boats, and what learn to sail courses are available," Branch said.
"There is something for the whole family and even kids as young as five can sail with a parent or guardian."
Sailors needed clothes, shoes, sunscreen and a hat — and must be happy to get wet.
Connells Point Sailing Club has several different types of dinghies: S14s, lasers, sabres, herons, flying 11s and optimists.
