NEW chum Ben Kitt got six wickets on debut for St George against Gordon on Saturday at Hurstville Oval.
And while the English quick pierced Gordon's batting like a knife slicing through butter with 6-31, in the first innings victory, the honest toiler Eric Denhartog didn't go unnoticed. Saints made 8-(dec)-335 and dismissed Gordon for 201.
The South Coast product has earned the admiration of his clubmates. With skipper and opening bowler Trent Copeland out this week with back stress fractures, the young paceman will be summoned again to bowl plenty of overs.
Copeland returns in round four but only as a batsman. He won't bowl again until his fractures heal.
St George club president Kevin Greene said the young paceman worked hard at his craft.
"Eric gives 100 per cent every time he bowls," Greene said.
Saints have won their opening two games against University of NSW and Gordon at Hurstville Oval.
Round three is against Easts starting at 10.30am this Saturday at Waverley Oval.
St George won three of the five grades against Gordon.
Along with firsts, Saints' second and fourth grades won, while third and fifth grade lost.
