After weeks of speculation, St George Illawarra have granted star winger Brett Morris a formal release from the final year of his contract.
The 28-year-old will join his brother, Josh, next season at Canterbury Bulldogs.
Morris is expected to sign a four-year contract believed to be about $2 million.
He said it was a difficult decision to make but was thankful to the Dragons for the chance.
“I am grateful to the football management and the board for allowing me to play alongside my twin brother Josh next year,’’ Morris said.
“It was not an easy decision and I would like to especially thank Red V members and fans, my teammates and coaches for their support during my time at the club.
“I would like to thank coach Paul McGregor for understanding and respecting my position.
“Paul has my full support and I have the upmost respect for what he has done and what he will implement at the club.”
Dragons chief executive Peter Doust said the board and club had agreed to release Morris.
“It is something that we have been discussing for some time as we wanted to upgrade and extend Brett to see him play his entire career at the Dragons,’’ he said.
‘‘However, for a player like Brett, who has given so much to the Dragons, the football management and the board did not think it right to deny his request.
Did the Dragons make the right move in releasing Brett Morris?
