NINETEEN 1st Caringbah Venturer Scouts and Rover Scouts are preparing for a life-changing three-week expedition to Africa, where they will provide manpower and financial support to African villagers.
With community work being a major focus of the trip, the youth members, aged between 16 and 20, will help build a preschool as well as make visits to an AIDS orphanage and some of the poorest areas in Soweto, South Africa.
The Scouts raised the majority of the funds by volunteering as bag packers at supermarkets and received additional assistance from Caringbah Rotary.
Venturer Leader Jason Juretic said they were still seeking more sponsors, especially those able to supply resources, which could be taken with the Scouts and distributed where needed.
"If any local businesses would like to offer financial assistance, educational books, colouring books, crayons or sports equipment such as balls, jerseys or boots, these are in high demand from the local kids," Mr Juretic said.
