FRUSTRATED Oatley commuters who cannot find a parking spot in the morning may soon get some joy.
Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian and Oatley MP Mark Coure announced a new 100-space car park as a major upgrade of Oatley railway station takes a step closer.
Ms Berejiklian said she understood how frustrating it was for commuters driving around the streets looking for a car spot near the station.
‘‘We will build the new 100-space car park right next to the existing Oatley station car park so it will be extremely convenient for customers and make a real difference to their daily commute,’’ Ms Berejiklian said.
The latest investment comes as a major revamp of Oatley station moves another step closer following planning approval.
Mr Coure said the Oatley station upgrade would include an overhead footbridge, connecting Oatley Parade and Mulga Road to the platform via new stairs and lifts, redesigned station forecourts and landscaping.
‘‘These improvements will transform Oatley station and make catching the train easier for people in wheelchairs, parents with prams and the elderly,’’ Mr Coure said.
Mr Coure also said that as a result of community feedback, a number of improvements to the station design had been made.
"This includes reducing the visual impact of the new footbridge and station forecourts by using different materials and finishes that better reflect the heritage significance of the station," he said.
"It is important we maintain the existing look and feel of the area. We thank everyone for taking the time to provide feedback on the proposal. Many of you have had your say and we have actively listened."
He said minor early work was already completed on Oatley Parade in preparation for major construction, which would start next year.
Will the extra car spaces make a difference to Oatley commuters?
