Oliver given a new twist

SUTHERLAND Shire Christian School's new production of Lionel Bart's musical Oliver will open on Tuesday, June 19.

Based on the Charles Dickens novel, Oliver Twist, the musical premiered in London in 1960, was made into a film in 1968 and has been popular with amateur productions and audiences ever since.

This new production from the Barden Ridge school features two students alternating as Oliver over four performances.

Because the school's teaching philosophy is to provide students with real-life, practical opportunities to use and fine-tune the skills they learn in school, students are an integral part of every facet of Oliver from poster design to stage crew, orch-estra, sound and lighting and set design, with former students also on board as assistant directors and assistant choreographer. Even parents are helping with costumes and backstage work.

Matinee: 10.30am, Tuesday, June 19; evenings: 7.30pm, Wednesday to Friday, June 20-22.
