Home invasion at Bexley

Police report a siege operation at Bexley is over.

They entered a villa in Queen Victoria Street at 4.15pm and found it empty.

Detectives from St George police are still investigating a home invasion and searching for two male suspects.

They said a female victim, 47, is still being treated at St George Hospital.

Police were called to the unit in a row of villas in about 1pm after reports that a women had been shot.

They spoke to a woman, 47, who had arm injuries and was outside the unit.

She was treated by Ambulance Paramedics and taken to hospital about 1.30pm.

Dozens of heavily armed police, and the dog squad and an armed tactical vehicle, raced to the scene. Police closed the street at Forest Road.

A witness at the scene said her son was home when a woman came over asking for help.

''He said someone came in the house and had a gun to her head...her hands were tied up with plastic or something.''

A resident has been tweeting about the incident for about a hour.

He said his mum was unable to drive back into the house.

‘‘Men with hand guns in the townhouse next door, police cornered off the road,’’ he wrote.

‘‘There’s a policeman on the driveway, hiding in the bushes. He gestured at me to go back inside.’’

He said the police told him that they did not know if someone was inside.

Police said the operation was ongoing and urged people to avoid the area.
