Police arrest man after Cronulla home invasion

A man who allegedly tried to sexually assault a woman during a home invasion at Cronulla in March was arrested by police this morning.

Police are expected to later charge the man who allegedly threatened Caroyln Bliss, 57, with a screwdriver and punched her several times during an attempt to sexually assault her.

Ms Bliss was sleeping alone in an upstairs bedroom when her attacker broke into her house between 1.30am and 1.50am.

She told police at the time that the man left her house after she kicked and screamed for help.

A brave Ms Bliss, 57, spoke to reporters outside Miranda police station after the attack in the hope that it would help detectives find the man responsible

"It was terrifying. It was very scary. I didn't think I'd live," Ms Bliss told reporters at the time.

"The assault only caused minor physical injuries, however, it's the mental anguish it has caused, and could cause, to other members of the community, that has led me to make this public appeal," she said.

Details of charges to come.
