PARENTS want the state government to fully honour a funding commitment it made to Hurstville Public School.
It was not that long ago that the government announced it would spend $5 million on building works at the school. But $1.1 million was removed in the recent budget.
The funds were to be used to expand the largely populated school with more classrooms.
Hurstville councillor Vince Badalati said the cut would "further delay a delayed project". He is pushing the government to reinstate the money by organising a petition that will start after the holidays.
"I've already been doorknocking in the area and have received many angry complaints about the cut," Cr Badalati said.
"The school is really up there in terms of enrolments at about 1100 students.
"The $5 million would have done certain work that would have helped the school a lot.
"As a result of the downsizing of the project, we will see sustained overcrowding at a popular school.
"This is about ensuring our students receive the facilities they deserve and were promised before the last state election."
Anh Tran has two children at the school and said: "It's getting more and more enrolments.
"It's obvious we need more classrooms because the school is growing."
Should the state government reinstate the school's funding?
